PAPIAMENTU
The three key areas your team can help with
Reducing single-use plastic from operations
- Identify plastic reduction champions: staff who are keen and will help ensure success.
- Include staff in decision making: listen and share ideas.
- Agree a process: write it down to help everyone remember.

Separating single-use plastic for recycling
- Identify recyclables: make sure staff are aware which types of plastic can be recycled.
- Provide the tools needed to separate waste: for example, equip vehicles and boats with separate receptacles to collect recyclable plastics and agree a process for removing recyclable waste after each trip.
- Help customers recycle: make it clear which types of plastic waste can be separated for recycling, and where it should go.
Preventing single-use plastic from polluting the environment as litter
- Ensure all trash cans have lids and are emptied regularly.
- Improve restroom signage: Make clear that customers can’t flush wipes, cotton buds or sanitary products.
- Cigarette butts contain plastic: provide or sell ‘butt collectors’ and encourage guests to use them.
- Dispose of all waste responsibly: ensure that all waste, general or recyclable, is disposed of responsibly to avoid becoming litter.
