Individual cleaning wipes, often infused in sanitizer, have increased in popularity since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic. However, they aren’t very effective for sanitizing hands and other surfaces, as the contact time they have with the surface to be sanitized is often too short for bacteria and viruses to actually be eliminated. As they are single-use, they also generate waste from the wrapper and from the towelette, which usually contains plastic.
