How to safely dispose of plastic waste
Contaminated waste
Generally this will be single-use items that have come into contact with someone suspected or confirmed to have contracted Coronavirus (or another dangerous infection). These items must be separated from other waste, should be double bagged and disposed of according to Bonaire regulations.

Everything else
- Choose products made from materials that can be recycled on Bonaire.
- Try to actively avoid the types of plastic that are hardest to recycle. These include: foam polystyrene (such as Styrofoam), black plastics, small plastic items like straws and sachets, plastics that are mixed with other materials (like juice cartons) and stretchy plastics such as carrier bags and Saran wrap.
- Plastic waste in Bonaire is separated and sorted by hand. Isolating the waste for 72 hours before it is collected for disposal will help to keep workers safe.
