Personal Protective Equipment
Masks
- Medical grade Personal Protective Equipment is not required in a hospitality setting.
- Reusable masks can be effective, but ensure you stay up to date with government guidance on their use.
- Ensure you put processes in place for the handling and laundering of reusable masks.

Gloves
- Give some thought to the type of gloves you choose. Latex is a natural material and will safely decompose in around 6 months, but it can trigger allergies.
- An unfortunate side-effect from an increase in hand-washing or the application of alcohol based sanitizers is sore hands and skin complaints. Hand cream can help with this, but wearing gloves maybe the only solution.
- Treat gloves like a second skin. This means washing them as regularly as you would wash your hands.
Aprons
Single-use plastic aprons generally won’t be required in a hospitality setting. They provide no greater protection than regular clothes/uniform and may inadvertently give a false sense of security. They may also spread infection when disposed of (unlike clothes which can simply be laundered).
